2023 Hunting Season

I saw decent bulls almost everyday. They were not rutting very hard. Most were alone. Bugling in the late evenings and early mornings then going quiet. Had bulls within 80 yards at least a dozen times but just no shot.

Fun hunt. Beautiful country.

Congratulations on your buck. He certainly has an interesting rack. I used a 7mm 150 gr. ABLR on a deer yesterday and the results were devastating (to the deer).
That was my first deer with my AR10 6.5. I set that rifle up so I could shoot feral hogs and get shots off faster. I have tons of them on my deer lease. Needless to say I have not seen one hog in the day light since I started using the AR10. I usually hunt with a .270 win.

Sue got her buck in the last hour of the last day.
An 18" 7 pt with her Nosler M48 Mountain Carbon 30 Nosler shooting the 168 ABLR at 3131 fps.

Congratulations to Sue. That is a dandy buck. How far was the shot? Looking at the deer, I would guess he didn't travel far after being hit.
The rest of the story...
I went out on the 4 wheeler to check cameras and road up on this buck bedded down. He just laid his head down as I rode past him 30 yards away!
Got home and told Sue. We had lunch while I tried to figure out the best approach.
We walked in on the 2 track and I kept glassing every few steps until I spotted him about 100 yards away through the hardwoods.
We moved around several times from our higher vantage point trying to get Sue to see him. He stood up and then laid down again. Sue finally got eyes on him and had to shoot through a "hole" but with no rest so I got on my hands and knees so she could use my back as a bench rest. Everything lined up, in between the snow showers and she hammered him.

I love these kind of stories-Thanks!

Found these guys this morning on my neighbors place, borders us for about 100 yards. Looking for pheasants and quail. Of course deer season is closed.
