My fifteen year old son. He was bumming as the antlers had broke.

I've killed lots of elk over the years and have determined one thing. Any elk is a good elk and your friend got a dandy.

Here are my two sons-in-law and their best deer from 2011. I may have out-bucked them, but they out-antlered me this past season  .

Both are Tennessee deer, one a 9 pnt that would go 135-140" and the other an 11 pnt that's right around 150". Best part was I didn't have to do any dragging! The nine was killed during our early M/L season in November and the 11 pnt late December during rifle season. My Ruger Hawkeye in .358 Win did the trick on that one. I think I know where that rifle goes when I'm gone now....lol.

Those deer are a couple of real beauties. Congratulations to your sons-in-law on some fine deer. Yeah, that .358 is always a desirable cartridge once a person uses it.

Thanks for the comments. It's also become apparent to me now, at my age, that I way prefer the dirty hands (gutting) to the sore back from dragging.

No kidding Guy! Bow season will be just getting started once I get home! Can't wait to skewer some venison with the bow this year. Then it is on to elk hunting!

Finally got my buck back a few weeks back and just now getting around to showing him off

I'm a very happy camper!

Mike,

You have every reason to be pleased with that bad boy. He is a dandy.
