Moose Opens Monday

Dr. Mike that must be a great relief for you. I can only imagine the worry you were going through. Hopefully she is on the mend.

Corey

Dan,

I'm stuck. I'm a baritone.

Corey,

Thank you for your expression of concern. I believe she will mend. It is worrisome in the interim. Consequently, your book should be on its way.

That is all right Mike baritone is good for the more mature Bulls
Good luck in the morning my friend keep us posted.
My God son is home from Hinton and we are hoping to do some walleye fishing on Saturday :)

Blessings,
Dan

I spent quite a bit of time in and around Hinton fishing for bull trout and rainbow. There are some loverly sheep over toward the mountains. I pastored in Jasper for several years, so I had ample opportunity to explore the area. Now it is time to grab a few Zzzz's so I won't fall asleep when Bullwinkle trots out tomorrow.

I'm kind of coming in tail-end Charlie on this one Mike as I just checked your moose site. My wife had the same thing with her appendix. Hope your daughter is feeling better and gets it taken care of quickly. Your moose will be patiently waiting for you sir!

Good luck today Mike. Hope you are successful today and bring home some meat! Scotty

Well, I just got back in a bit ago. I saw several whitetail does. A small herd of elk stood in front of me at one point. I was focused on a young bull, and suddenly all around me were cows and calves rushing past. The bull urinated, all the while looking at me, and then trotted off. Any would have been an easy shot. However, bull elk does open for another twelve days, and cows don't open for another 15 days after that. However, this is the second herd I've seen this week. I saw a good looking bull moose, but he was about 900 yards away. By the time I could sneak down into the valley, he had slipped into the trees. I found his spoor, but he went into such thick brush and I couldn't slip through it. I'll go out again tomorrow morning and situate myself near his bedroom. There are at least three bulls, a couple quite large, hanging out in this area. Then, there is the youngster about a mile away that I just missed earlier this week.

Great hunt Mike! Sounds like it was a great day in the field! You deserved it buddy! Hope you can tag that moose soon! Good luck! Scotty

I'm slipping out to the bedroom of the moose tomorrow morning.

Thank you, Greg. She says she is still in some pain. Single payer health care is not something that you will enjoy in the US. We don't much care for it when we need it in Canada.

Hope your daughter has a speedy recovery and connect on your moose that makes it all fall in place and makes your season memorable. And don't forget pics, waiting to see yours only makes me antsy to see my wife and youngest daughter connect on theirs this year, plus my old man has his moose draw too so we will giving meat away this year I hope.

We will giving meat away this year I hope.

It is always an enviable position to be in when the hunter supplies food to family and friends. Again, thank you for your wishes for a quick recovery for our daughter.

I don't have one of those fancy phones with apps and web connections or anything. Consequently, I have to waste my Saturday refreshing the Nosler forum, hoping DrMike comes on any minute with his success story    Get 'em Doc!!!

Sorry to disappoint you, Bill. No moose today. A cow did wander across the meadow and into the bush. I hoped a two-year-old was there waiting for her, but I never saw it. I did see quite a few whitetail and mule deer, however. At one point, I stopped my truck to glass a valley. Almost immediately, a small mulie buck stepped out of the bush about 200 yards away. He worked his way down the edge of the brush toward me, walking to within about four yards of me. After he passed, still grazing nonchalantly, I shifted slightly so I could watch him. He caught the movement and froze. Then, we had a standoff for a few moments until he decided to vacate the premises. I may get back out this evening, if I can get all my work finished and make a visit or two that are lagging because I'm spending so much time in the field.

Keep huntin, probably won't get many from home. My theory is that no matter how bad the hunter (only good hunters here) if you spend enough time in the woods, eventually you will get lucky. Thats been my theory my whole life and it works fopr me almost every year. Good luck. I am waiting patiently for pictures.
