Have a buddy who is going to start loading some ammo for me in 264 win mag 280 AI and 35 Whelen. Have decided to start with 140 Accubonds on the 264. Do you guys have any recipe's you'd like to share for those calibers? Thanks

I think you would do well to start with RL25 in your 264WM with the 140 AB's. It is s screamer in mine and runs right at 3180 from my 26" tube. I am running Nosler cases, CCI250s, 140 AB or PT and 67.6 (work up carefully to this one). It is very accurate in my rifle and seems to be very consistent as well.

Both use the same load and die settings.

Got that Whelen of yours covered as well whenever your ready.. I know there are plenty of 280AI shooters as well.

RL15, RP cases, CCI250's and the 225 AB or PT

Welcome to the forum. It's good to have you aboard. Wow! I don't think anyone loads for those cartridges on this forum! They're pretty rare around here. Seriously, those are three great cartridges. What bullet are you thinking of using for the 280AI and the Whelen? I'd recommend using the search function to see what has been posted over the past couple of years on each of those cartridges.

As far as the 280 AI goes, RL-22 is a good all around powder for the 140 AB (3150 all day long and .5" groups), and 160 AB (2950 and .5"). I have also had great luck with 7828 (2975 and .5"), and Magpro (didn't play with it much but showed great potential) and the 160 AB, and RL-17 (was able to get up to 3220, and most groups were under .75") with the 140 BT, and AB.

As soon as the wind calms down I'll be doing some work with the 120 Bt, and the 140 AB with some H4350. I'm trying to find a bit of a reduced load for my wife (think normal 280 level).

160 AB with RL-22 420 yards. Blood spot on the neck is the exit. Hit behind the shoulder on a quartering shot.

Here are a couple......

280AI
140 gr AB- 63.0 grs RL 22, R-P case, Fed GM215M primer 3150 fps

160 gr AB- 60.0 grs RL 22, R-P case, Fed GM215M primer 3000 fps

35 Whelen
250 gr PT- 59.5 grs RL 15, R-P case, Fed GM210M primer 2584 fps

All shoot well under MOA for me.

I'm working with my 280AI heres my only finished load.

160AB WLR Nosler cases with 62 gr of IMR-7828SSC about 1/2 MOA.

Getting 3160 outta it but that is with a 28" barrel.

Dan, the load for the 225 AB is 61 grains RL15, CCI250 primer, Remington case, and the COAL is 3.45". I can't remember the exact OAL right now, as it is written in my book at the house. It runs about 2730 or so out of my rifle.

Scotty, I just want to thank you my friend for the information.
I am hoping that by the end of the month my rifle will be ready including load development
