Rifles on your "want" list?

Hi Kurt,
Glad to see you around here again. Long Rifles out of Sturgis put it together for me.

Like most on this forum I really don't need anything, but since you asked......

I've had the itch for some time now to have a 6.5x55. There's something about the metrics that appeal to me and I also have 5 boxes of ammo that need to be shot. I know, I could just get rid of the ammo but what the hell. I could even be persuaded to get rid of my CZ 550 in 7x57 to aquire one:)

What I've really thought about for several years though is having a custom rifle built that would be my go to rifle for virtually every big game hunt the rest of my life. There wouldn't be any composite, Kevlar or stainless anything on this gun. It would be beautiful walnut with sharp checkering. In a relatively standard caliber, maybe 30-06 or something off that case.

No matter how fancy it was it would get hunted with in all weather conditions every year. I don't abuse my guns but sometimes they get scars. It just adds to the character and tells a good story.

I would hunt with that gun for the rest of my life or until I couldn't hunt anymore. Only then would it get passed down to either someone in my family or another family with a solid hunting tradition. The rule would stand that this rifle gets hunted with every year. No exceptions!

If the rules were not followed and this rifle became a safe queen then I would haunt the owner to the point they would wet their pants once a day in public until they passed the rifle on to someone who would use it for its intended purpose!!! MAKING MEMORIES IN THE FIELD

Lefty, I like your idea of a ideal hard hunting rifle and doubly like your idea of haunting the tar out of a person that doesn't hunt a rifle properly! Laughed my butt off.

I have this little 6.5 Swede Featherweight I'm dieing to break in a little. Super little cartridge. Can't wait to see what it does.

Now this ones really a pipe dream. Always thought it would be neat, and Winchester would shock the world! (y)

Winchester Model 70 Supergrade in 6mm Remington. 24" 1-9 twist barrel

I'd be on board for that one.. Make mine a 1-8 though..

Yeah, 1-8 6mm would be awesome. Though I think I'd rather have a Sporter or a Featherweight. For whatever reason, Supergrades tend to be a little porky,

Kurt I'd also be just ecstatic if they brought it out in the classic sporter also. The only thing I don't care about the featherweight is the fact they would try and slip a 22" barrel on the darn thing. I want a 24" on my 6mm Remington! Am I asking too much?

I would not think so David. They do make 24 inch barrels for their Featherweight magnums?

Though I tend to like a little longer barrels, I would be ecstatic with ANY new 6mm, particularly a Winchester. But yeah, a 24" Sporter would be the bee's knees, but a 22" Featherweight wouldn't scare me off. My 788 is a 22" tube.

I do believe I would buy a Featherweight chambered in the 6mm Remington. Like Kurt, a 22" barrel would not be a problem for me.

Great minds think alike.

Unfortunately for Mike, he also thinks like me, LOL

For the life of me, I can not figure why Remington made so many mistakes marketing the .244/6mm against the .243 Win? Practically speaking, the 7mm Mauser case has myriad advantages of design over the smaller .308 case, yet the 6mm Rem remains obscured by the .243 W. This should not be in a world of reason?

Remington has a long history of screwing .the pooch with their marketing... .244/6mm, .260, .280/7mm Express, SAUMs, 8mm RM...

I know Remington's reputation? I guess that there really are companies who are too strategic or too big to fail, although they ought to, based on corporate blindness of their business people and Marketing?

I always thought Remington's problems were related to being owned by people who are only concerned about making money and don't care about guns.... QC, marketing, some horrible design ideas (ETronix anyone?)....

Think that you are right, they certainly have made some stupid Marketing moves over the years, Kurt.

A 9.3 x 62 built by Martini or a Holland and Holland built double.( either a 300 H & H or 375 H & H )

If those never become financially available to me then maybe a 35 Whelen and a white bear hunt with Dr Mike

CZ 550 Full Bavarian Stock in 9.3 x 62 Mauser...
