I tried this test with the hundred grain ballistic tip and found that the jacket held together pretty well however the core separated much the 115 that you tested. Do you find that the core separates when shot through animals?
I think that when the impact speeds of the hundred grain ballistic tip start to get over 3300 fps you are starting to risk the bullet going to pieces on impact. I think that there are better bullet choices for close range shots with a really fast gun such as a hot loaded 25-06 or a weatherby...
I was thinking that i'd try 40 ballistic tip, 50 grain v max, and 55 grain grain ballistic tips or 55 grain sierra game kings. I have rl7, imr 4198,ww748,h335,rl15,imr4320,blc2 on hand. I have been trying 50 grainers and got half inch groups for 4 shots from blc2. The bullets didn't like to...
I am wondering what the .222 can safely do with a 40 grain and 50 grain bullet. What can it do at 46000 cup and what could it hypothetically do at the old standard of 50000 cup?
I think that if you run into the 60 grain hornady you should give it a try. It did give .4 inch 5 shot groups out of a .222 remington with a 1/14 twisted 24 inch barrel. I was shooting imr 3031 powder. Velocity was only a blazing 2800 something fps though.
a company called barnes makes a bullet...
I don't think that you would need a magnum primer in 257 bob but I could be wrong.
Some guys use magnum primers in .222 remington so I would assume that you could use them in .22 250 if you started a grain or two lower than max and worked up. I sometimes use magnum primers in 06 length calibers...
61 grains of imr 4831 with a 150 grainer doesn't sound like enough. I would add more powder to the cases in .5 grain increments just to see if it gets more accurate as the charges go up. I would then pick the most accurate charges and adjust the seating depth in.

Ouch I guess the lack of cratered primers, short case life, and a sticky bolt doesn't necessarily mean that my pressures aren't absurd. Oh well I guess 3300 and half inch accuracy isn't too bad.
I have been running 55.9 grains imr 4831 with hundred grain nosler solid base bullets(precursor to the ballistic tip I believe) in my 25-06 for a velocity of 3418. Remington cases, cci mag primers, 3.242 overall length. Several old reloading books nosler 2,3 as well as several speer books have...
I for one would take the 7mm rem mag. I would then shoot 120 grain ballistic tips at 3500 for deer and the like. Then switch to 160 grain accubonds or 150 grain scirocco's for big things or distanttttttt targets. I think that you would be surprised at how little a 120 from a 7mm rem mag will...
I'd be willing to bet that a 115 could go to 3200 with one of the following
reloader 22
imr 4831 or
aa 3100
I think that I could off most anything with a stiff charge of the above and a 115 grain partition...
