Double Shovel, awesome pictures buddy! That looks like a great bunch of animals.

I gotta say, I think that is a M71 and I am a little jealous seeing it laying over game. What a cool lever rifle! Congrats on those animals. All excellent trophies. Gotta give a bullet report on that old Barnes Original.

Some folks might be mistaken, but it seems like the mighty 270 Win and the 338WM are some serious workhorses up North. Nice to see regular old cartridges still slaying big awesome animals like that. Scotty

Thanks Scotty! Yes, you nailed it on the M71, 348 Win. It was my great grandfather's and has been in the family since new (1935 I believe). It has a 3 digit serial # and is a deluxe model in plenty workable condition. That MuskOx hunt may have been its last...although a big moose or grizzly would be awesome too! I was doing about 5" groups at 100 yards shooting over sticks - not bad for open sights and cold weather clothing. The Barnes original was traveling about 2300 over the chrony.

No doubt the 270/30-06/300 WM/338 WM/375 H&H are still very productive up here.

Well, I'm gonna go look for caribou this afternoon - season starts on the 10th...

Love those 348's buddy. They are THE lever rifle I think. Can't wait to find a nice one. Getting a moose or grizzly with one would make me happier than heck. Plus yours has so much history. Great pictures again. Scotty

I'm with Scott on the model 71...great pics of the animals DS. That moose is awesome!!

Fantastic pics there DS. Such a variety of game and rifles to hunt them with. Great looking country too. I appreciate seeing these things and the enjoyment on your hunting trips.
The Moose & Musk Ox pics really are great. Cheers.

...you musta been pretty tired of "freeze-dried", looks like ya et everything but the horns & skull...

...dandy ram!!!

thanks guys, it was a great trip. I was hoping to get a grizz and a moose, but bad timing on both. The outfitter had a horse killed by a grizz just before i arrived, they had seen it three times but i never did. And it was to early for moose.

Real 'Arty' pics there NWT. Great stuff & a nice ram too....a pleasure to see. Cheers, ET

Yep,
After 36 years she still can (and wants to!) help fill the freezer

Excellent! Wonderful to see a lady in the field. More women mean that the hunt will continue for another generation.

You're right there, DrMike. Our son complains that his sister shoots deer more than he shoots geese!! And he shoots his share....

My son's best buddy (he's like a son to me) got this dandy bull a couple days ago in the Bighorns. It was his second ever archery elk - for once everything went according to plan.
He is 6x7, 7 on the right. Two different 6 points tried to run over 'em while this one was getting dressed out. Great adventure for the younger guys..
