My Savage 270wsm is not a shooter like my other savages. From time to time it will drop under 1" groups. It is good enough for a hunting rifle but definitely not a tack driver.
I would like to make a barrel swap to 204 ruger for a varmint rig. Is there a reason to believe that the new barrel...
My 270 WSM has been a challenge to bring to acceptable group sizes. By accident, I loaded some 130 gr BT with the die set for a different bullet and didn't notice until several were loaded 0.153" from the lands. They were moderate loads so I decided to shoot them instead of pulling the bullet...
Sticky bolt, cratered primers, difficult to extract casing, shiny spot on base of brass.
All winchester brass, freshly trimmed and full length resized with Rem Magnum primers.
My 270WSM seems to have a few quirks. After two fouling shots today, I started with a ladder of Re17 and 130 gr...
My son bought 150 rounds of Magtec 308 from Cabelas and saved the brass for me to reload. I noticed when resizing that this stuff was hard/stiff.
Tonight I started to load them with 155 gr Custom Comp with H414. There is a major difference in internal volume between this CBC headstamp and...
Which non-lead bullet for my 308 for deer. Not interested in lead for hunting bullets.
150 gr Nosler E-Tip or 150 gr Hornady GMX or 150 gr Barnes TTSX
I will be loading for a bolt action varmint barreled savage and a short barreled AR10.
I am interested in results and experience with the...
Any favorite loads for these bullets? My son bought an AR10 and I bought 1000 of these on Bivwak.
I have Varget, H414, H4895 and Reloder 17 in stock with Nosler brass.
Do the formulas for calculating twist rates factor in the polymer tip on modern bullets? It appears to be old when polymer tips are "modern".
The tip weighs little to nothing but is a significant length component, should the calculations be made for the length of the lead/copper only?
I have been working on loads for my 270 WSM for several months on and off and have some questions that seem obvious to me but have not seen addressed on this or other forums.
My process has been to start at minimum loads and load in either 0.5 or 1 grain increments up to maximum published. The...
Having nearly depleted my Large Rifle Magnum primers and still desiring to shoot my 270 WSM I am going to try using Winchester Large Rifle primers to work up some loads using Reloder 17 and Accurate Magpro.
What problems should I be looking for?
I also have H4895, Varget and H414, but best...

I am a new reloader and ran into something unexpected yesterday at the range while using my chrony for the first time with rifle loads instead of for shotgun loads.
Load
270 WSM with winchester brass and CCI 250 primer
110 gr Barnes TTSX
MagPro powder

Savage 11 FCNS with 24" barrel 1 in...
Savage makes all of their rifles in 270 WSM with a 1 in 11" twist. This seems rather slow for 140-150 grain bullets.
Anyone with a Savage that shoots the 140-150 grain bullets (Barnes TTSX comes to mind) with good experiences to share?
Is a 130 gr E-tip of TSX sufficient for elk-sized game?
From reading here and quite a few other sites, it appears to me that the concept of sectional density may apply differently when comparing copper bullets such as Barnes and the new E-tip to a traditional copper jacketed bullet.
The sectional density idea in traditional bullets focuses on deeper...
I made up a series of loads (150 gr) in 0.5 grains steps from minimum to maximum published loads. Yesterday at the range none of these loads would shoot under 1.11" in 5 shot groups.
A different test series with another bullet (125 gr) all shot under an inch with 3 different charges @ 0.6" or...
I made some cartridges that needed to be disassembled for lack of accuraccy reasons. I pulled the bullets with an inertial puller. Do I need to resize the necks before reusing the brass?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I haven't found the answer through searches here and at other locations.
It seems to be common knowledge that a fast twist rate is necessary for longer heavier bullets. Not enough twist causing keyholing etc.
Is there too much twist rate? My 243 is 1...
