Curious question for the 35 whelen guys. Right now I'm running a 225 accubond in my whelen for elk at close range hunting, 20 to 100 yards max. What bullet would use for this hunting situation other than the 225 Accubond If any? Bill

Well I took my new to me 35 Whelen out for a test run this morning and I have to say I'm quite impressed. Should do very nicely in the mountains for elk. Speed was 2665 3 shot ave. Other 2 single shots were me getting the rifle in paper before shooting for my 3 shot group.

Im getting ready to buy my first 35 whelen. 24 inch Douglas barrel, McMillan Sako hunter stock, trigger set to 3 lbs, Talley rings. Comes with 225 accubonds, 225 ttsx bullets and rl15 powder. Am I set or need something else powder wise?

On the model 70's should the mag box free float around? This is my first model 70 and my mag box is tight and does not move. My only experience is with Weatherbys and Remingtons and the mag box floats on those rifles.
